Joe Duplantier, from Gojira, participates in an indigenous protest in Brasília: "Fighting for everyone's future."

The guitarist and vocalist of the French band is in Brazil protesting against the temporal landmark.

Joe Duplantier , guitarist and vocalist of Gojira , is in Brazil this Wednesday, the 25th, to participate in a historic protest by indigenous peoples against the approval of the time frame established by bill 490/2007.

The musician posted a photo alongside a child from the Guarani Kaiowá people. “Preparing for one of the largest gatherings of indigenous peoples in Brazilian history. Join us in solidarity with [the girl] JAJA, who is here fighting for the future of the whole world,” he wrote in the caption.

In March 2020, the band released the single "Amazonia" as a way to support the demarcation of indigenous lands in Brazil and showed scenes of demonstrations and the destruction of nature in the country.

The track is part of the album Fortitude , the band's seventh studio album and first in five years. "Much of the album is a tribute to indigenous communities. I wanted to represent that aspect," Duplantier explained about the album cover .

The protest organized at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília brings together more than 6,000 indigenous people in a historic event. The goal is to pressure the Supreme Federal Court to overturn the measure that threatens the rights of native peoples and the preservation of the environment. Discussions on this proposal begin this Wednesday, the 25th, at 2 PM.

If approved, the temporal framework stipulates that indigenous peoples must prove possession of the lands they claim on the date the Constitution was enacted, that is, on October 5, 1988. Otherwise, the demarcation processes will be reversed or rejected.

"Today, one of the most important cases for the future of indigenous peoples, for the environment, and for all of humanity will be judged," explained the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) on social media.
