João Paulo Andrade – Whiplash

When I stumbled upon Iron Maiden's Fear Of The Dark, it was love at first sight again, and the entire collection was bought immediately.

I've always been a music fanatic. But until 1989 (I was born in 1973, do the math) I only listened to MPB. Real MPB… Chico Buarque, Cartola, Elis Regina, Zé Ramalho, Tom Jobim and the like… rock was inferior to me.

As a music fanatic, I always received records as gifts. At Christmas in '89, an aunt mistakenly gave me a Legião Urbana album, *Quatro Estações*. I couldn't return it to the store because it had been bought in another state. I decided to give it a chance. I listened to the album once. And again… and again… and listened to it all week. I discovered the band had released three other albums before. I bought all three in the same week. And for practically a month I only listened to Legião Urbana. Immediately I started buying records from various rock bands. Until I stumbled upon my first heavy metal album, *Fear of the Dark* by Iron Maiden, again love at first sight and again the whole collection bought right away.

Back in 1991 I was selling all my MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) vinyl records (a decision I greatly regretted later) to buy rock and heavy metal on CD… I went through a phase of only listening to thrash… of only listening to punk… I was radical, who wasn't?

Today I listen to everything… including old-school Brazilian Popular Music (MPB).

True fans will have yet another reason to complain about Whiplash.
