João Gordo transforms the classic kitsch song "Ciganinha" into punk with 'Brutal Brega'; listen

Carlos Alexandre's version is the second single from the singer's project with Val Santos.

João Gordo , an icon of Brazilian punk for his work with Ratos de Porão , released this Thursday, the 30th, the second single from his new side project. The song chosen this time is "Ciganinha," originally by Carlos Alexandre , which is part of the album Brutal Brega .

Last Saturday, the 25th, the punk version of the kitsch anthem was presented to the public for the first time during the vocalist's participation in the TV Globo program Altas Horas , on which occasion João Gordo also presented "Fuscão Preto", the single that inaugurates the project , as well as "Tenho", a song by Sidney Magal also chosen for the album's tracklist.

The release of “Ciganinha” comes with a new music video directed by Raul Machado , who has directed videos for bands such as Chico Science & Nação Zumbi, Planet Hemp, Sepultura, Ratos de Porão, Raimundos, Marcelo D2, O Rappa, Pitty and CPM 22 , among others. The cover art was created by illustrator and designer Wagner Loud .

The project emerged during the pandemic as a partnership between João Gordo and producer Val Santos , guitarist for the bands VIPER and Toyshop , as well as a solo artist . With the pause in shows and other in-person activities, the duo decided to record, for fun, punk versions of classic Brazilian songs. In a short time, the duo already had dozens of songs recorded and an album ready.

The release of the album Brutal Brega is scheduled for the second half of 2022, by the label Wikimetal Music . “Ciganinha” is already available on all digital platforms.
