Although we are still at the beginning of the election period, many artists have been standing up to President Jair Bolsonaro since the start of the pandemic in 2020. One of the most notable is the singer Anitta , who has even earned the admiration of João Gordo .

In an interview with UOL , the lead singer of Ratos de Porão said he is learning a lot from his children and declared his vote for Lula , as he says he has done twice before. Furthermore, João Gordo admitted to being impressed by Anitta's strong stance against the Bolsonaro government.

“She’s number one on Billboard , killing it and standing up to fascists here. I think that’s super important. Anitta does what rock bands should be doing, all the reactionary bands. And then there are the fence-sitters. At this point, if you stay on the fence, you’re right-wing,” she comments.

In the same interview, João Gordo admits that despite his political awareness, he used to have "Bolsominion attitudes," and has learned to mature due to the influence of his children.

“Until recently, I had the attitudes of a Bolsonaro supporter, not politically, but I made crude jokes. I was raised that way, I wasn't aware of it. 'Traveco' to me was the word that designated a transvestite. My daughter opened my eyes to that, and many things that have happened in recent years have opened my eyes as well,” he says.

João Gordo and the 'Brutal Brega' project

During the pandemic, João Gordo found a way to stay active through music. One of his many projects is Brutal Brega , where the singer joined guitarist Val Santos ( VIPER , Toyshop ) to recreate hardcore versions of classic brega songs.

Some of the songs already released are “Fuscão Preto” , “Ciganinha” and “Tenho” , and a full album is on the way. In an interview with UOL , the musician revealed that he also has a hardcore MPB project ready that includes covers of Ednardo , Alceu Valença and Kleiton and Kledir .
