Iconic musician João Gordo ( Ratos de Porão ) releases his punk rock version of "Sandra Rosa Madalena" this Friday, the 20th. Originally popularized by Sidney Magal and featured on his self-titled 1978 album, "Sandra Rosa Madalena" uses a fictional gypsy woman as its muse, formed from three popular Brazilian names.
The song, now transformed into a new arrangement, is also accompanied by a music video made with images from João Gordo's album show at SESC Guarulhos. Previously, the song was only available on the physical edition of the album Brutal Brega (2022) , released by the Wikimetal Music . Another version previously exclusive to the CD, "Doces Beijos" by Menudo , is also being made available online this Friday.
Brutal Brega , produced in partnership with Val Santos ( Toyshop , VIPER ), is a tribute to "brega" music through hits from Brazilian music. The tracks were recorded based on the strong emotional connection the duo had with compositions by artists such as Ângelo Máximo , Jane and Herondy , and Reginaldo Rossi .
In order to promote the adapted songs, João Gordo will be performing several shows in 2023. The musician has even confirmed his participation on April 29th at the first edition of the Summer Breeze Brasil .
