On Tuesday night, the 9th, the internet was surprised by a reunion between João Gordo and Iggor Cavalera .

On his Instagram , the lead singer of Ratos de Porão posted a photo with his longtime colleague, who had been estranged for about two decades until they both reunited in 2020 to create the supergroup Revolta .

"Beautiful reunion with my friend, Iggor Cavalera. Now all that's left is to finish with grandpa," wrote João Gordo.

“Grandpa” is what the vocalist calls Max Cavalera , with whom he hasn't had contact for over 20 years. Despite having admitted to missing Max and even posting an old photo with him in 2019 , attempts at reconciliation seem to have been unsuccessful. “We haven’t spoken since ’97, sometimes I miss Grandpa,” he wrote at the time.

Reason for the fight

Rafinha Bastos' podcast , Mais Que 8 Minutos , and admitted that he missed his friendship with Max Cavalera. The musician himself, however, showed he wasn't entirely sure of the reason for the prolonged estrangement and said he thought part of the reason was Max's wife, Gloria Cavalera .

“I miss them, man. I do,” he admitted. “And his brother too, they kind of drifted apart. I had a lot of history with those guys, you know? A lot of history. And I do miss them, man. We get old, we die, and we won’t say goodbye to each other, we’ll never jam again.”

When asked about the reason, João replied: “Because his wife won’t let him, man. His wife sees me as a scoundrel, I don’t know why. The reason I see for what happened in '97, I don’t know, '98, is that I recorded a song with Sepultura . It’s called 'Reza', in Portuguese, on the album Against Derrick [ Green ’s debut album , the first without Max. And they took that as a betrayal on my part, because Max at the time was all into 'macumba' and the song is called 'Reza'; he thought the lyrics were about him, or someone put that idea in his head.”

At the time, João Gordo also mentioned the disagreement between the two musicians and Gloria during a meeting at MTV , and spoke about a near-reunion between the old friends, where he had been invited to see a show by Max after the latter suffered a stroke, but was unable to attend due to a commitment on the TV show Legendários .
