Vocalist and punk icon João Gordo has just released the album Brutal Brega . Created in partnership with producer Val Santos ( Toyshop , VIPER ), the album is a fun tribute to brega music, featuring Brazilian classics transformed into punk rock versions. Brutal Brega is now available on all platforms and is a release from the Wikimetal Music label.

The project started as a joke during the pandemic: Val Santos began developing the versions for fun, and when João Gordo heard the songs, he became interested in the project. In a short time, the two had recorded dozens of versions together and put together an album. The songs included were chosen for the strong emotional connection the duo had with the songs, originally released by artists such as Sidney Magal , Reginaldo Rossi , Ângelo Máximo , Jane and Herondy , and many others.

Among the 12 tracks on the album are previously released singles – such as “Fuscão Preto” and “Tô Doidão” – and other classics, like “Amante Latino” and “Domingo Feliz”. The album also showcases another side of João Gordo, in tracks like the romantic “A Namorada Que Sonhei” and the duet “Não Se Vá”, with actress Marisa Orth .

The album is also available on CD, with two exclusive bonus tracks: “Doces Beijos” ( Menudo ), and “Sandra Rosa Madalena” ( Sidney Magal ). The CD is already on sale in major stores, and online via Wikimetal Store .

Shows for the Brutal Brega project are being planned for 2022, and also 2023 – the project is already confirmed in the lineup of the first edition of the Summer Breeze Brasil , which will take place in April.
