João Gordo revives MPB classics in a punk version on his new album.

The new album is available on CD via Wikimetal Store.

Punk icon and Ratos de Porão vocalist João Gordo his new album , Brutal Brega: MPB Mode Wikimetal Music label . The project, produced by Val Santos ( Toyshop , VIPER ), is a tribute that reimagines Brazilian music classics in a punk version.

Among the 10 tracks on the album are songs that have become classics in the voices of artists such as Caetano Veloso, Tim Maia, Belchior , and others. Songs like "Tropicana," "A Filha da Chiquita Bacana," and "Cavaleiro de Aruanda" get versions with distorted guitars and the irreverent energy of João Gordo.

Brutal Brega: MPB Mode follows up on the work begun in 2022 with the album Brutal Brega , which explored the repertoire of "brega" music from artists such as Sidney Magal and Reginaldo Rossi.

According to a statement released to the press, the idea began as a pandemic-related joke by Val Santos. He started recording songs with punk arrangements and showed the versions he had been making to João Gordo, who became interested in the project. The songs chosen for the first album, as well as for the new Brutal Brega: MPB Mode , are songs that held strong emotional significance for the duo.

The cover art and visual design accompanying the album were once again created by Wagner Loud. The release also includes a series of music videos, directed by Raul Machado, with a video for the track "Cavaleiro de Aruanda" also released today.

Brutal Brega: MPB Mode is available on all platforms, and also on CD at the Wikimetal Store .
