João Gordo became one of the most talked-about subjects on Twitter this Tuesday, the 23rd, after making statements against supporters of Jair Bolsonaro in a recent interview. Besides calling the current president a fascist, the singer also mentioned the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.

Asked about the best way to deal with conservative colleagues in rock and punk, João Gordo dismissed the possibility of dialogue. “It has nothing to do with fascists, man,” he interrupted. “The guy supports Bolsonaro, he knows all the wrong things, all the bastardry, that the guy is a bad character. Whoever is supporting Bolsonaro right now has their hands stained with the blood of 300,000 people who died. They are complicit in genocide.”

“The whole world is seeing this, I’m not the crazy one,” he continued. “[We need] antifascism and antiracism above all. Only in this way will we transform this country into a country of decent people, for now it’s a country of scoundrels, of crooks (…) with 3,000 deaths a day, man. It’s the apocalypse. Those who are into rock, who aren’t fascists and don’t have this idiotic thinking, let’s unite.”

The statements were made in an interview on the Clube do Vinil program , broadcast live this Monday, the 22nd, on YouTube. The excerpt of the question began circulating on social media on Monday and went viral on Twitter.
