Joan Jett

Joan Jett was "terrified" when she performed with Nirvana.

Jett participated in Nirvana's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In a recent interview, Joan Jett discussed her experience as the lead singer of Nirvana in 2014, leading up to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jett said she was "paralyzed" when Dave Grohl invited her to perform "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Joan recalled: "Receiving a call was one of those things that gives you mixed feelings. It was like, 'Oh my god! I'm terrified. The reason I'm scared is because I need to say yes.' There was no way I could say no."

“Being called was a huge honor,” she continued. “I didn’t want to think about it too much. So I just rehearsed and did it. But, strangely, I was very calm that night. That’s not normal. I should have had some level of anxiety. But it was a strange calmness, which gave me a sense that everything was okay.”

Jett said that “it was a wonderful experience” to play and sing with the members of Nirvana. “I looked at Dave and saw his hair flying and thought, ‘Wow! It’s really cool to play these songs.’”
