Unable to tour to promote their recent album, We Are Not Your Kind , the members of Slipknot are looking for new ways to occupy themselves. In the case of Jim Root , the guitarist spoke with Loudwire and revealed that he is planning a solo project.
“I’ve already received several questions about a solo project. I think I now have a little extra time to dedicate to it, so I’ve been writing things that maybe wouldn’t fit into the Slipknot universe. I’d like to [start a solo project] just because I need to stay busy. You know, I gave up on having a family, I never got married, I never did any of that. I know Corey [ Taylor ] wants to do a solo project besides Stone Sour, he’s already mentioned it.”
Despite thinking about it for a while, Root still doesn't know exactly what the project will be like: “I'll overthink it until I go crazy and maybe it'll never come out [laughs]. What direction should I take? Should I even think about a direction? Should I just let things flow naturally? Should I use things I wrote for Slipknot that we ended up not using?” See the full interview below.
Root, always dedicated to Slipknot, is open about what he gave up to be in the band. In an interview with Irish Gate Joe , he said he postponed the idea of having a family so he could dedicate himself to the group. At 48 years old, he is still unmarried and has no children.
"It's a lot of work. It's a lot of sacrifice... You already need to be thinking about your next album while you're working on the current one. You always have to be one step ahead of yourself," he said at the time.
“I put off having a family because I knew I was going to be on the road all the time, so when I go home, it’s just me. Some of the other guys — Clown [Shawn Crahan] and Corey [Taylor] — have kids, wives and things like that. And I’m sure, for them, it’s a strange transition to make (…) I kind of gave my whole life to this band, willingly. I don’t regret it. And I wouldn’t change a second of it. I learned a lot.”
