During an interview with WMMR , guitarist Jim Root revealed that he turned down two offers to join Slipknot before accepting. He said the first offer came when he was 20 years old and the band's original vocalist, Anders Colsefini , asked him to replace Donnie Steele.

“I said no at that moment because I wasn’t playing guitar and I knew those guys were professionals. My skill was bad, I hadn’t played guitar in years,” he said. In 1996, he joined Corey Taylor in Stone Sour, a year before the vocalist joined the band and replaced Colsefini.

He continues: “I thought, ‘If Slipknot calls me, I’m not going to join the band. I don’t want to feel like it was handed to me. I had to feel like I worked for something, something I achieved.’ I didn’t think they would, but they called me and I said no.” Then a friend opened his eyes and said, “You rarely get the chance to take a big step in life.”

“Then I called Clown , and the rest is history,” he revealed. Jim Root is still with Slipknot today, who have just released their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind . The group is currently on tour promoting the album.
