The bust of Jim Morrison , former lead singer of The Doors , stolen in 1988 from the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, has finally been found.

According to a report by RTL radio , investigators from the financial and anti-corruption squads in Paris found it by chance. The discovery was made during an operation as part of a fraud investigation, according to the radio station. Authorities have not provided further details at this time.

The judicial police published an image of the recovered bust on their social media, showing it covered in graffiti and damaged by time – the nose and mouth were already damaged at the time of its disappearance. The announcement reads:

“After 37 years of absence, the bust of Jim Morrison, stolen in 1988 from the Père Lachaise cemetery, has been found! Upon being questioned by the Financial and Anti-Corruption Brigade of the Judicial Police Directorate of the Prefecture of Police, under the aegis of the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office, this emblematic symbol for the singer's fans has been recovered.”.

Created by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin and installed on July 3, 1981, to mark the 10th anniversary of
Jim Morrison's death, the bust had been missing for 37 years.
