Jerry Cantrell reveals that David Bowie was the inspiration for Alice in Chains' new single.

Alice in Chains is back with an album that should be released later this year.

Last Friday, the 4th, Alice in Chains released their first single in five years, "The One You Know ," and announced that it will be part of their sixth studio album, which still has no release date or name announced.

Part of the album was recorded at Studio X in Seattle, marking the band's first recording in their hometown in over 20 years. The other part was done at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, California.

Speaking about his new work with SiriusXM , vocalist and guitarist Jerry Cantrell revealed that the inspiration behind the single "The One You Know" was singer David Bowie : "It's quite aggressive... I was thinking of Bowie when I was writing it, so it has a kind of 'Fame' vibe to it. It has a good riff and a classic Alice In Chains chorus."

According to Cantrell, the new album won't be similar to what we heard on the previously released single, but "it's a good indicator of what you'll feel when you listen to the album." He also says that the five-year hiatus was a band decision: "We're lucky to be able to make music whenever we want without following other people's schedules."

Alice in Chains is currently on a short US tour that will end on May 19th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, the band will travel to Europe and stay there until August, when they will return to North America for some shows in Canada.
