Jen Majura , former guitarist of Evanescence , announced the end of her musical career last Tuesday, June 10th.
Through social media, the artist made an emotional statement about her decision to "step away" from the music industry temporarily. Jen Majura claims she needs the break so she can focus on doing "better and healthier things" with her life.
Along with her farewell, Jen announced the release of four unreleased songs, recorded a few years ago. Check out the full statement:
“Dear friends, I will be as brief as possible: After careful consideration, observing what is happening in the music industry, developments related to AI, and changes in society, I have come to the conclusion to step away.
Some of you have heard me talk about this for some time now. Instead of wasting another year of my life constantly hoping for new energy, momentum, and creativity, I have reached a point in my life where I can relax and unwind in peace. While time allowed, I managed to accumulate an incredible amount of experiences, tours, shows, travels, and wonderful moments! I am grateful for every detail, but the world has changed. I can confidently decide to stop.
I'm not saying I will never create music again, whether recorded or live – but, for now, I feel there are healthier and better things to fill my life with good vibes and not deal with the overwhelming amount of nonsense that accompanies the music industry today. I simply can no longer identify with today's attitude and values.
I wholeheartedly wish all ambitious and remaining 'creators,' young and old, all the best. With the "In time, the meaning will become clearer. To you, my fans, I want to give you a big virtual hug and say thank you for all the support, love, and faith throughout these years that I've been an active touring musician. I am grateful.
As a final musical endeavor, I want to share four tracks with you. Songs that were written over a decade ago with the great guitarist Dennis Hornes . I found these old demo recordings while cleaning my computer and thought they were too good not to share. So, if you've made it this far and read the entire post, I believe you truly care, and these four songs are for you.”
Jen Majura and the unexpected departure from Evanescence.
In May 2022, the band announced via social media the departure of guitarist Jen Majura. "It's been a very special chapter in the band with our dear friend Jen Majura, but we've decided it's time to part ways." However, at the time of the announcement, Majura stated that she had not been involved in the decision.
Shortly after, Jen Majura spoke in an interview about leaving Evanescence after six years, comparing the band's separation to a divorce. When asked how she received the news, Jen recounted that she was cleaning her apartment when she received the call. "At first, I thought, 'Is this a bad joke?'" she recalled. "I received the news, hung up the phone and (...) lay on the floor, staring at the ceiling, wondering what it was, literally staring at the suitcase I had already started packing [for the tour]. I'm hurt and still in this confusion of 'What just happened?'"
