Jeff Scott Soto reposted on his social media the announcement that Mike Portnoy was returning to Dream Theater . The drummer is also a member of Sons Of Apollo alongside Soto. The vocalist commented on Portnoy's return and the future of his project.
"Well, the secret's out, and I hope this gets shared across all music websites so I don't have to talk about or avoid questions about SOA [Sons Of Apollo] anymore."
He praised Mike Mangini for his work in Dream Theater and described him as "a class act for his services and duties with DT, we've been friends for a long time and his tenacity is rich and strong."
“Secondly, I have to congratulate DT for finding a way to make their fans go crazy today, the boys are together again and I hope they can keep this up until they can’t anymore, I had a lot of fun with MP on SOA. The funny thing is that I woke up this morning from a dream that I was going on stage with Sons again, coincidentally with this news dropping today!!”, he concluded.
The future of Sons Of Apollo has been uncertain. The band's guitarist, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, spoke about the subject ( via Blabbermouth ): “It was getting better with the second album. Things were going really well. And finally we got together and organized and everything was working out well. And we definitely had something going for us. When the pandemic came, not everyone was on board to move forward and do more things.”
