The collaborative project between Jeff Scott Soto and David Ellefson , former bassist of Megadeth , has been postponed indefinitely following the sex scandal involving Ellefson and a teenage girl.
Announced in March of last year, Ellefson-Soto collaboration has only released a cover of Riot so far. The vocalist confirmed in a recent interview that there are no plans to resume the project at the moment .
“I hope to [release the music] at some point. Like many people, I’m giving David space and time to deal with his own issues,” he told Dr. Music (via Blabbermouth) . “We were getting ready to release it, but obviously, things have been put on hold for that reason.”
In May of this year, intimate videos of encounters between Ellefson and a teenage fan were leaked online. The young woman in question stated that the relationship was consensual, and the bassist, who is married, intends to sue those responsible for the leak . In the same month, Megadeth announced the musician's dismissal .
With the repercussions of the case, Soto explained the reason for postponing the release of new joint songs. “It’s better to let things pass and calm down, because we don’t need the kind of press that brings this, especially the comments from the internet cowboys out there. Let everything go under the rug and I’m sure [the collaborations] will resurface. I’m sure we’ll revisit the material when the time is right,” he concluded.
