Jeff Schroeder , longtime guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins , posted a note via the band's social media announcing his departure from the group.
The musician, who had been in the band for over 15 years, recalled the opportunity that arose in 2007 when he was at UCLA and was informed of the opening by a friend. He said he "had no idea what he was getting himself into.".
“Being a huge fan of the band, the audition was something I threw myself into wholeheartedly. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.” He recalled the memories he created over so many years with the Smashing Pumpkins, and said that “Although it was a difficult decision to make, I decided to leave the band to create space to explore a slightly different path.”
“I would like to thank Billy, Jimmy, James, and Jack for being incredible bandmates and even better friends. I will definitely miss sharing the stage with you. I wish the band all the success in the future. I will be watching and listening.”
Billy Corgan , James Iha , and Jimmy Chamberlin also released a statement regarding Schroeder's departure: “We thank Jeff for his tireless dedication to the band and our incredible fans. Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation for the friend he is, and for being there for SP through the good times and the tough times too.”
