Drummer Jay Weinberg revealed that he underwent hip and femur surgery on November 14th. The musician insisted that the medical procedures were planned long ago and were unrelated to his dismissal from Slipknot earlier this month.
Weinberg shared a photo of himself on crutches on Instagram, explaining that he had scheduled the surgery knowing it would take a long break from his touring schedule, even though he remained in Slipknot. The band's next show is scheduled for April at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas.
He wrote in the post: “This Tuesday, after three years of careful planning, I underwent an outpatient procedure to repair a torn labrum on my left hip and shave down a deformed part of my femur – a condition that has never affected my drumming, but one I’ve wanted to address during the downtime from my recording and touring schedule. Since 2020, my priority has been to keep my playing going uninterrupted until a window in the schedule allows me to complete an expected recovery of about four months. In May, that schedule began to show that that window would be now.”
“Following a follow-up MRI in August, I made the decision (along with those close to me in my personal and professional life) to schedule this surgery immediately after the final performance of 2023, with the ambition and expectation, both mine and my doctors', of being ready for the next show in April.”
He concluded by saying, “Thanks to my incredible team of doctors, I’m already on my way back to what I love most! The road ahead through this recovery will be challenging, but it’s a challenge I’m ready for.”
Slipknot announced on November 5th that they were parting ways with Weinberg due to a "creative decision." About a week later, Weinberg issued a lengthy statement saying he was "heartbroken and taken by surprise" by the dismissal.
