Bassist discusses financial issues
The website Alternative Press published an interview with former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, in which the musician explains the reasons behind the end of his solo band, Newsted.
“In the end, it’s about the money, and having to do everything from composing, singing, playing, and paying for everything, is a very heavy burden,” said the bassist. “But I received a lot of respect, I couldn’t even imagine. We had respect from the bands that followed Metallica and Voivod, and we taught people we didn’t even know.”
The musician concludes that the end of Newsted was for financial reasons: “It cost me a lot of money. Thousands and thousands of dollars to take Newsted around the world, to the 22 countries we played in. But it was worth it for the lessons I learned and for all the respect we were given, and for the camaraderie of the band. But I couldn't continue because the industry is so difficult, and so different from what I knew.”
