Janick Gers and Adrian Smith in an interview
Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers commented that he has no ambition to receive awards for his music. Here's his statement:
“I never aimed to win a Grammy. It's just a gift people give you. It's nice to receive [these awards] but I'm not in this career to win a Grammy or get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm not interested in any of that. But I want to play good music, that's what I believe in. I'm sure the other guys in Iron Maiden want the same thing.”
Controversy surrounding Janick Gers' performance is reignited
Adrian Smith commented on Maiden's motivation:
"Nowadays, music is made on the computer. The vocals are digitized; it's no longer organic. With electronic drums, computers, and programmed music, nobody is really playing. So what's the magic in that? When young people come to see us, they think we're different. When we make music, we try to say something more."
