Hetfield praises the bassist.
In an interview with a Texas radio station, Metallica guitarist James Hetfield spoke about the importance of bassist Robert Trujillo to the band and how well he fits into the group:
“Who else could have come to do this? I mean, there were other people, we auditioned others and it could have worked out, but it’s hard to find someone who’s his age, who’s had the same musical development, who has these skills, who’s already been on the road. It’s not like he was someone who’d never done this before and would be like, ‘Oh my god!’ as if he were going through something for the first time that we went through twenty-five years earlier. He has children. He’s married. Everything made perfect sense. And his personality is probably one of the best contributions to the band, I think. Because he’s so chill, so easygoing, he’s always there rehearsing. He fits in really well, he has superpowers.”
