Metallica 's iconic The Black Album celebrated its 30th anniversary in August. As part of the celebration, the band invited 53 artists from different musical genres and nationalities to contribute to The Blacklist , an album featuring covers of songs from the anniversary record.
From versions that are more faithful to the original, like "Nothing Else Matters" with Miley Cyrus and Elton John , to those where the songs are almost unrecognizable, like St. Vincent ," the best part of the project is each artist's dedication to creating something completely new with these classics. At least that's what James Hetfield .
In an interview with SiriusXM , the Metallica frontman praised the work of the guests. “I love the fact that [the artists] like the songs, they immersed themselves in them, digested them, and spit them out in their own way, in the way that works best for them. Whether it’s in Spanish, rap, country, or a crazy remix,” he commented (via Brave Words ).
“I love the fact that they are all very, very different. Everyone who participated, the artists, took the time to make the songs as if they were their own,” she continued. “They didn’t just call and say, ‘Oh, let’s do a cover the way it was.’ They appropriated [the songs] and made them their own. That, to me, is beautiful.”
