Hetfield talks about Hammett
In an interview with American radio station Sirius XM, James Hetfield spoke about Kirk Hammett's absence during the writing of Metallica's latest album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct":
“Kirk wasn’t part of the songwriting. Kirk obviously came in and did the solos. But Lars and I… You know, Lars and I always did that, but with contributions from other people, their riffs and other things. But Kirk’s riffs weren’t there. I know he talks about losing his phone with the riffs, but… No, he wasn’t involved in the process. And Robert was there. The intro to ManUNkind is Robert. It’s just him and it’s beautiful. But Lars and I did what we always do, which is put the songs together.”
In an interview with the same radio station last week, Kirk Hammett said that his solos on the album were all improvised .
