Metallica doesn't have a new album, they always maintain very successful tours, and even with the last tour for the album 72 Seasons (2023) , the band keeps their biggest hits in the setlists around the world, mixing the classics and presenting songs from the new album in all the shows of the tour.
During another appearance on The Metallica Report , James Hetfield commented, as transcribed by Blabbermouth : "I think the confidence, the fact that the 72 Seasons was well received and some of the songs we're playing live work and fit harmoniously with the whole catalog, all the albums we have."
“We’re not afraid of that, but we’re not overdoing it either. We know people want to hear the ‘best of,’ and you have to challenge them to listen to some of the new stuff too, because we certainly don’t want to be a band that just plays its greatest hits and that’s it.”
Hetfield added: “It’s all part of it. I think our confidence, being on stage, knowing that all mistakes are part of the show. That’s part of what we say before we go on stage: ‘hey, all mistakes are free’. And it’s not a mistake, actually, that word is kind of ridiculous in a way.”
"It's just a unique way to play that night. Everyone can enjoy whatever happens in that moment. And honestly, I think it's a challenge."
Metallica returns to the stage with the M72 World Tour in April 2025, touring North America.
