In celebration of Record Store Day, which took place last Saturday, Metallica released a video in which James Hetfield talks a bit about his memories of the first vinyl records he bought. Check out James' statement and watch the video below:
“I bought my first vinyl… It was small, it was a single by a band called Lynyrd Skynyrd, it was Sweet Home Alabama , I was super excited, it was in a really old store in California. I was so excited to have paid for my own album and to have it at home. And I would say other good memories are like… This (picks up the “ Iron Maiden ” album). I bought this just because of… This. Because look at this guy. How could you not buy this? This guy looks very menacing and evil. So I bought this and I hadn’t even heard of them. So I bought it, I put it on to listen, and I’m glad I did because it was a great inspiration for me back then. Another great memory was seeing the “Kill 'Em All” album. Seeing it in stores for the first time, in the packaging, on the shelf. I was super excited and I bought all the copies. Just kidding, I didn’t.”
