In an interview with a Boston radio station, Metallica frontman James Hetfield spoke about the recent death of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell:
“Well, it makes you embrace everyone around you, definitely your bandmates and family here and at home. You start to realize that there’s a darkness that anyone can fall into and feel trapped in. And when you’re in it, and I know how deep my darkness is, it’s very difficult to realize that someone can help you. Sometimes you can be totally lost…”
Obviously I can't explain what he was feeling, but we all have that darkness, and talking to someone close to you and letting that person know what you're going through is very important.
Yes, it's a sad story, and there have been many sad stories recently, especially in the world of Grunge. And the fact that we lost Lemmy and everything that has happened in recent years only makes us very grateful to be here doing what we've been doing.”
