In a recent episode of The Metallica Report , James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo discussed what they would be doing if they weren't in Metallica .
Both musicians offered answers that would keep them in the music industry in some way. However, James and Robert also offered alternative solutions outside of stardom.
Trujillo said that he would "probably continue playing music." "I love composing. I always write songs for fun. I would become an independent composer and get into production."
To answer the question in a field unrelated to music, the bassist states that his "first job was in construction." The artist continues: "I can't lift heavy things anymore, but back then I could climb three flights of stairs carrying some drywall panels."
James initially replied that he would do something related to music: “I would still… be trying to form Metallica. I’d probably be looking for a Lars Ulrich out there,” he said with a laugh. “Or I’d be involved with bands. I’d be a roadie or work in a studio helping to make music in some way.”
Regarding something outside the art of music, James expresses his passion for design: “I love graphic design. I love graphics, I love illustration, and I also love business. Experience with wood, metal, construction stuff. That would have become something as well.”
