James Hetfield , frontman of Metallica , revealed during an interview on The Metallica Report that he often has nightmares before tours.

Hetfield explained that despite his years of experience on stage and the certainty that when the band is together, the show flows, it's normal for him to feel anxious and doubt himself a little before the tours begin.

Touring, anxiety, and nightmares.

One of the reasons for this feeling is age. The singer said that he is starting to feel insecure because he and the other band members are older and there is a feeling that they can't do certain things. However, he himself understands that this is part of "all that nonsense that everyone tells themselves before getting into something that interests them and that is important" (via NME ).

All this mental stress ends up generating nightmares set during the shows, and James recounted some he's had: “I show up at the show, everyone's joking around or there are 200 people backstage, and where are my things? You know, where's the setlist? What songs are we playing?”

He went on to say, “And then there are typical things like the guitar neck is made of rubber and only has two strings, and where’s my roadie? And the guitar cable doesn’t let me reach the microphone. Silly things like that.”

Although he suffers from nightmares, when he wakes up, James Hetfield says he doesn't freak out about it. “It's part of the cycle. That's all. You increase the anxiety, but you don't let it take over, because you have this balance between anxiety and faith. And once you get there, everything will be alright,” he concluded.

Luckily, the singer knows how to handle the situation, because Metallica is currently on tour in Europe promoting their album 72 Seasons , and will soon be heading to the United States.
