In a moment of nostalgia and celebration, Jacoby Shaddix , vocalist of Papa Roach , shared his views on the recent resurgence of nu metal, a genre that had a major impact in the late 1990s and early 2000s. During an interview with Rock 108 radio ( via Blabbermouth ), the singer expressed his excitement at seeing the style, after a period of peak popularity, once again winning over young audiences.
According to Shaddix, the current wave of nu metal's popularity is truly unique. "It's incredible, man! Because, although 80s hair metal never had this big resurgence—I mean, Mötley Crüe had a second wind—nu metal, for real, is getting a second chance now. It's really cool to see that happening," stated the vocalist, highlighting that the nu metal genre is reaching a new generation of fans and artists.
Nu Metal Revival: The Influence of New Bands and the Legacy of Papa Roach
Papa Roach, alongside other icons of the genre like Korn and Deftones, has been performing to huge audiences, recalling the legacy of nu metal in packed events, as was the case with their recent European tour. Shaddix also highlighted the importance of emerging bands that, inspired by this movement, now share the stage with the veterans. He cited groups like Beartooth and Bring Me The Horizon , who, according to him, absorbed the essence of nu metal and transformed it, creating their own sound.
“It’s fascinating to see how these bands grew up listening to our music, how we were a reference for them, and now they’re taking those influences, giving them their own vision and doing something totally new. That’s very exciting,” concluded Shaddix, celebrating the continuity and evolution of nu metal.
This resurgence of the sound that marked a generation shows that, even with the passing of years, nu metal continues to captivate new generations of fans and musicians, with a renewed energy that promises to continue for quite some time.
