The highly anticipated biopic about Ozzy Osbourne has made further progress in its production. According to Jack Osbourne , the musician's son, the Osbourne family has already chosen an actor to portray Ozzy himself, although the name remains a secret.
During an appearance on SiriusXM 's Influenced , Jack revealed that the project is entering a new phase with a confirmed director and the script being rewritten [transcription via Blabbermouth ].
“We are in full swing on the next phase of development for this film. It’s a film with actors that we’ve been developing with Sony studios for about six years. We already have our choice set, and I can’t say anything yet, but it’s a phenomenal, phenomenal actor. We already have a director hired and we are rewriting the script now.”.
The film, still without an official title, was originally announced in 2021 as a co-production between Osbourne Media , Sony Pictures, and Polygram Entertainment, focusing not only on Ozzy's musical career but also on his relationship with his wife and manager Sharon Osbourne , who is involved in the production along with their children.
Jack also recalled Ozzy's desire to have a film made about his life: "And everything he said—I kept him informed: 'Oh, we met with this guy' and 'this is happening.' And he would simply reply: 'I don't care. Just let me know when it premieres so I can watch it.'".
Suggested names to play Ozzy and Sharon
In 2024, Kelly Osbourne and Jack Osbourne discussed during The Osbournes Podcast possible actors who could play their parents.
Kelly said, “I know who I want to play Mom—Florence Pugh. I think Florence Pugh would do a fantastic job.” While Jack suggested, “You know who I want to play Dad? Bill Hader . Everyone thinks I’m crazy until I show them a side-by-side picture, and this guy’s ability to transform himself.”
While the biopic is still in development, Editora Belas Letras has released the Brazilian version of Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography, Last Rites , the singer's second and final book. Released on October 7th, the book was completed just days before his death on July 22nd, at the age of 76.
