Tenacious D cancelled their tour last month following a controversial comment by Kyle Gass about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump . Now, co-founder Jack Black has commented for the first time on the band's future.
During the premiere of his new film Borderlands , Black was asked by Variety about the subject and he replied: “We need to take a break. Everyone needs a break now and then. And we’ll be back.”
Black went on to say that he still talks to Gass and they're still friends. "These things take time. And we'll be back when the time is right."
The musician and actor revealed that Tenacious D is perhaps his favorite job: “It’s a work of art. It’s my baby.”.
Controversy
Gass's comment was made on July 14th during a concert by the duo in Australia, on the musician's birthday. Jack Black then sang "Happy Birthday" to his colleague and, making a wish before blowing out the candles, the guitarist said: "Don't miss Trump next time," referring to the shot that hit the former president and US presidential candidate in during a rally the previous day.
Two days later, on his Instagram account, Jack Black said that he would “never tolerate hate speech or encourage any form of violence.” He added, “I don’t feel it’s appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour and all future creative plans are on hold.”.
Following the controversy, Gass used his social media to apologize for what happened . “The line I improvised on stage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I do not tolerate violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy and I am very sorry,” the musician wrote on social media.
However, that post no longer appears on Gass's Instagram page.
