Iron Maiden will end their career with "dignity and elegance," says Murray

Guitarist from legendary British band talks about retirement and the 'Run For Your Lives' tour

Dave Murray spoke again about the future of Iron Maiden and stated that the band will know when it's time to end their career.

In an interview with MusicRadar , the guitarist from the legendary British band emphasized that the current lineup, celebrating 50 years of history with the Run For Your Lives , is still enjoying a good moment on stage and the energy of the concerts.

“It doesn’t seem like fifty years have passed since I first auditioned for the band. And, obviously, so much has happened in all these years – certainly many tours! But this tour will be very special. The production will be something we’ve never done before. And since we’ll only be playing old songs, it will be like a history lesson about the band,” he confessed.

Still, the guitarist stressed that he doesn't want to see the band continue just out of tradition or attachment, preferring to opt for a dignified farewell when the group feels that this is more appropriate than continuing to play without the same energy as before.

“For me, there’s nothing worse than seeing a band you like on stage and them looking like they shouldn’t be there doing that. We’re almost seventy years old now, but I think we’ll all know when the time is right. It would be a mutual decision. I think there’s a right time and place to retire with dignity and elegance, instead of prolonging the situation. If you can end things at this high level and retire gracefully, I think that would be satisfactory for us. And not keep insisting on something that has no future, when you’re doing it for the wrong reasons,” Murray concluded.

The guitarist also praised the performance of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and the other members on the current tour, highlighting that the group still feels enthusiasm and adrenaline when they take the stage. “Right now, Bruce’s singing is incredible. It’s so powerful. On the last tour, he was running all over the stage and singing really well. He’s got it all. He’s got it all.”

Dave Murray also gave a sneak peek of what to expect from the Run For Your Lives . "It's a wonderful opportunity to perform this particular setlist," he said.

“We’re going to play some of the songs we started out with when we were playing in pubs. So there will be a lot of stuff we haven’t played in God knows how long, and it will be exciting to revisit that. It shows how strong these old songs are, that we can still play them fifty years later. They’ve stood the test of time. And obviously, many of the younger people in the audience have never seen these songs played live before.”

He concluded: “We’re ready for this tour and, after that, we’ll see what the future holds. But, at the moment, the band is sounding great, we still have that excitement and adrenaline when we get on stage. We’re still enjoying ourselves, and that’s what really matters.”

Run For Your Lives World Tour to Central and South America . In Brazil, the band will perform at Allianz Parque in São Paulo on Sunday, October 25th, and Tuesday, October 27th. Tickets for the extra show are already on sale through LIVEPASS .
