After the final episodes of Stranger Things aired, Iron Maiden acknowledged the honorable mention made by the character Eddie Munson to the band's music.
Eddie is a headbanger character and throughout the series he also makes references to Dio and Metallica . In the eighth episode of the new season, his friends are in his room looking for cassette tapes to escape the villain Vecna , but despite the extensive heavy metal collection in their hands, they say they can't find anything and ask, "What the hell is this?"
Eddie enters the room and asks what the others are looking for, and one of his colleagues replies: “ Madonna , Blondie , Bowie , Beatles ? Music! We need music!”. Irritated, Eddie grabs a cassette tape of Iron Maiden's album Piece of Mind (1983) and shouts: “This IS music!”
The scene went viral on the internet and became a popular meme, even reaching Iron Maiden themselves, who used their Twitter to share an image of the moment and comment: "We're with you, Eddie!".
Interestingly, the character shares the same name as the band's mascot, although the possible reference has not been confirmed by the series creators.
Eddie Munson became one of the most beloved characters in the fourth season of Stranger Things and was the first to officially introduce heavy metal into the Netflix . Besides being an avowed fan of the genre, Eddie is also a guitarist and has his own original band called Corroded Coffin . At the end of the season finale , he plays a solo of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" to help his friends.
