In an interview with Metal Hammer , Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno admitted that the band was right to fire him.

Di'Anno recorded the debut album, Iron Maiden , in 1980 and its successor, Killers , in 1981.

“I don’t blame them for getting rid of me. Obviously the band is Steve [ Harris ]’s baby, but I wish I could have contributed more. After a while, it got to me. In the end, I couldn’t give my 100% to Maiden anymore. And it wasn’t fair to the band, or the fans, or myself.”

The vocalist was fired, supposedly because of his lifestyle which, according to Di'Anno, included excessive drug use at the time.

Paul Di'Anno also spoke of the pride he feels for the two albums he recorded with Iron Maiden:

“The two albums I made with the band were milestones for heavy metal. Years later, when I met the guys from Metallica , Pantera, and Sepultura and they told me that those albums were what got them into music, I felt incredibly proud.”

Bruce Dickinson was chosen to replace Paul Di'Anno and made his debut on the 1982 The Number Of The Beast
