In the latest Wikimetal poll, Iron Maiden was voted the band that released their first album in the 80s that is doing best today, with 36% of the votes. Metallica and Megadeth came in second and third place, with 27% and 18% of the votes respectively.
Formed in 1975, Iron Maiden released their self-titled debut album in 1980. Despite some lineup changes over the years, the core of the band has always been bassist and leader Steve Harris, who has been present on all albums. The current Iron Maiden six-member lineup has remained the same since the album Brave New World , released in 2000.
Iron Maiden's latest album, The Book Of Souls (2015), marked the longest gap between two studio albums for the band, with their previous album, The Final Frontier , having been released 5 years prior. The album was the band's fifth to reach number one on the UK charts and achieved number one sales in over 20 countries worldwide.
The album also won the Wikimetal poll as the best release of 2015 with 64% of the votes.
