Iron Maiden introduced metal to MTV 39 years ago

The live performance of “Wrathchild” was the first metal video on the channel

On August 1, 1981, MTV arrived on American screens for the first time, and Iron Maiden was the band that introduced heavy metal to the channel that changed the importance of video to the music industry forever.

The live performance of the track “Wrathchild” was the sixteenth video to be played on MTV on its debut day (in addition to being played four more times during the channel's first 24 hours), coming ahead of REO Speedwagon and behind Rod Stewart The Buggles ' “Video Killed the Radio Star .
