Iron Maiden had to cancel a show in Bologna, Italy, scheduled for last Thursday, the 7th, due to dangerous weather conditions.
Earlier this week, the Italian government declared a state of emergency in five regions due to a drought caused by lack of rain and high temperatures. Bologna Sonic Park , the venue where the band was to perform, said the weather risks included "extensive lightning and strong winds."
This Friday, the 8th, manager Rod Smallwood commented on the cancellation of Iron Maiden's shows via a statement ( Blabbermouth ). Rod apologized for the unforeseen circumstances and promised that the band will return to Bologna next year, since the show cannot be rescheduled.
“When the weather conditions worsened, the promoters came to us and expressed concern for everyone’s safety and the feasibility of holding the show. They gathered information and decided that the event should be canceled for safety reasons and announced this on stage. I have to say that I completely agreed with that decision and it was the responsible thing to do, considering the number and scale of lightning strikes in the surrounding area, the strong winds, and the information about what was to come,” said Smallwood.
The high summer temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere are affecting a number of artists on stage. The most recent example was singer Carlos Santana , who fainted during a show in Michigan, in the United States, due to dehydration.
