Confess band awaits trial
The Iranian metal band Confess is being accused by the country's government of various crimes against the system.
Nikan Siyanor Khosravi and Khosravi Arash Chemical Ilkhani were arrested on charges of blasphemy; anti-government advocacy; forming an illegal and underground band and a satanic Metal and Rock record label; composing anti-religious, atheistic, political and anarchic lyrics; and giving interviews to banned foreign radio stations.
The musicians, aged 21 and 23, were arrested in October and posted $30,000 bail on the 5th of this month. They are currently working with lawyers and awaiting their trial date. The musicians could face six months to six years in prison, and if convicted of blasphemy, they could be executed. The band's pages and official website are now under government control.
The band's latest album, "In Pursuit of Dreams," was released in October. Tracks from Confess can be heard on the Soundcloud .
The news was first reported by Canadian radio station Metal Nation Radio, which received a letter from a friend of the band requesting that the news be released.
