The death metal band Arsames was arrested and sentenced to fifteen years in prison for playing heavy metal; the act of making music of this genre is considered a crime in Iran, which considers the genre to be an apology for Satanism.

As Metal Injection , in early July, the group, which has existed since 2002, was arrested "for being in a satanic metal band and being against the Islamic government," according to the official document regarding the case.

The members of Arsames paid bail after their arrest and are at home awaiting trial regarding their conviction.
