In an exclusive interview with Wikimetal, the musician talked about the upcoming release from his band Black Country Communion , what it was like to participate in the recording of Mark Knopfler and more!
Check out the full interview:
Wikimetal: You were one of the many guitarists invited to play on Mark Knopfler's "Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero." What was that experience like?
Joe Bonamassa: The experience was great. At first, the only instruction I received was to play throughout the entire song. I was aware that I might be interfering with other guitarists' parts. They edited it and it turned out great.
WM: The album Live at the Hollywood Bowl with Orchestra is about to be released and the singles are incredible. Did you face any difficulties recording a live album with such a large orchestra?
JB: We're an improvisational band. We don't count measures in our solos. With the orchestra, we had to be right on the beat. The orchestra doesn't improvise, so that really made us perform at our best.
WM: In less than two months, the new Black Country Communion album will be released. Can you give us some spoilers?
JB: It's the best of the five albums we've made. It was a joyful album to make. I'm very proud of it.
WM: If you had to choose one album from your entire discography to show someone who wants to get to know you, which one would it be?
JB: The Ballad of John Henry (2009) or Blues Deluxe Vol. 2 (2023).
WM: J&R Adventures is your own record label, and you release your albums through it. What's it like making music that way?
JB: The freedom to do what you want when you want is great. I wouldn't do it any other way.
WM: You are one of the confirmed artists to play at the Best Of Blues and Rock 2024 here in Brazil. What are your expectations? Can fans expect any surprises in the setlists?
JB: We're playing a lot of Blues Deluxe Vol. 2 right now. It's a really fun show.
