One of the most renowned British duos, Sleaford Mods , has been active for almost 20 years.
Formed by singer Jason Williamson and beatmaker and producer Andrew Fearn , they are coming to Brazil for a unique show, which will take place on November 2nd in São Paulo, at Carioca Club .
Already praised by Iggy Pop and with a great discography, Sleaford Mods arrive in our country with the tour promoting their most recent album, UK Grim (2023).
In an exclusive interview with Wikimetal , Williamson discussed the albums they've released, special moments in their career, Brazil, and more!
Since 2007, the musicians have released 12 albums, a high number of records in a 17-year period. Regarding this, the vocalist doesn't have a definitive answer as to the secret to such a high frequency.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I think the key is just the interest in doing it, a real love for writing the music, writing the lyrics, whatever it is. Just that insistence that the show must go on, really.”
When asked about a highlight of his career, he replied, "I think the first time we played in Europe, in Belgium, at a place called Crack Festival, was when it really started to feel like something was going to happen."
“Signing with Rough Trade, our record label, playing Wembley Stadium twice. It’s such a crazy place to play so many things, really. It’s all been fantastic,” he adds.
In 2015, Iggy Pop chose the album Key Markets as the best of the year. Despite this, Williamson's opinion differs somewhat: “They’re all good. Some people would say the older stuff is better. Some people would say the newer stuff is better.”
“I don’t know, because [when] you write, I don’t have a favorite. It’s like everything is good and then I never hear it again. I just keep trying to look ahead.”
Regarding his Brazilian fans, he says he's heard "many things, it's brilliant!": "People have said it's crazy, it's dangerous. It's this, it's that. It doesn't matter. You have to see for yourself, don't you?"
"So I think we're very, very, very honored to have been invited, really, and for people to think there's some interest in what we do there. I think that's brilliant. So, yes, we're looking forward to it."
Finally, he sent a message to those awaiting the Sleaford Mobs' performance in our lands: “buy a ticket and go there. We won't disappoint you. You can have a good night out.”
