According to Google , interest in nu metal is at its highest level in 20 years. The survey was conducted by the Twitter account called Crazy Ass Moments in Nu Metal History (via Loudwire ).

The Google Trends graph, dated from 2004 due to the advancement of the internet, shows that in 2009 there was a drop in searches for the term nu metal. In April 2021, however, searches for the genre peaked.

In addition to listing numerous new bands to follow and support in this growth, the social media profile also suggested some of the influences that could explain this evolution of the musical style. These include: the Linkin Park album Meteora (2003) , which recently received a special edition ; the 30th anniversary of Korn next year; and the Netflix and HBO productions about the Woodstock 99 festival .

Previously, Mike Shinoda , a member of Linkin Park, revealed that nu metal "went from being the cheesiest thing on the planet to the coolest thing ." Meanwhile, Korn's vocalist, Jonathan Davis , believed the genre was the last wave of "great rock bands .
