Inge Ginsberg , known as the "grandmother of metal," passed away at the age of 99. Inge was a remarkable figure with an impressive story of surviving the Holocaust and won the hearts of rock fans by discovering metal and forming her own band at the age of 93.

As a young woman, Inge not only escaped a concentration camp during World War II, but also helped pass messages between the Italian resistance and the American secret service. This chapter of her life was referenced in the music video for the song “Totenkopften” (Laugh at Death) by her band Inge & the TritoneKings.

After the war, she and her husband moved to Hollywood and built careers writing songs for Nat King Cole , Doris Day , and Dead Martin . In 2018, she was the subject of a documentary by The New Times about her passion for metal. Rest in peace, Inge.
