Michael Sweet , vocalist of the Christian metal band Stryper , posted a text on social media following the sex scandal involving explicit videos of David Ellefson , of Megadeth , allegedly sent to an underage lover.
In a post made shortly after the news broke, Sweet posted a short statement about the importance of forgiveness, but without mentioning Ellefson's name, who only appeared in the comments section. “As a Christian, it’s important to remember that we are all sinners. Often, we pick up the first (and biggest) stone to throw at anyone who has failed, who has publicly ‘sinned’,” he began. “Instead of tearing each other down, we should lift each other up. Pray for one another and pray even more, with greater devotion when a brother or sister stumbles and falls.”
In Sweet's view, the world would be very different if people could move beyond self-judgment. "When you see someone who has fallen, help them get up. I'm not saying to support sin, but I am saying we should support the sinner," he concluded.
Earlier this week, the Megadeth bassist became the center of controversy after explicit videos allegedly sent to a young woman with whom he has an extramarital affair were leaked. According to the accusation, their relationship began before the woman turned 18. Following the news, Megadeth released a statement, read it here .
