The project was conceived by a local fan

Singer David Bowie has been honored with his first statue in Buckinghamshire, on the outskirts of London, England.

Named "Earthly Messenger," the monument represents various phases of the musician's career and was installed in Aylesbury Square, where he is believed to have first performed as his Ziggy Stardust persona and debuted two albums at the local venue in the 1970s.

David Stopps, a fan and local resident, had the idea to honor Bowie two years after his death with a statue celebrating his career and life. Stopps raised £100,000 (approximately R$ 470,000) through a Kickstarter campaign to make the tribute a reality. According to him, a third of the donation came from fans outside the United Kingdom.

The statue was created by Andrew Sinclair and plays Bowie's music every hour between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
