Ihsahn is currently focusing on his solo career
Ihsahn , vocalist of Emperor Kerrang! magazine about the band being pioneers in the Norwegian black metal scene and the effects on the recording of the album Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk , released in 1997.
Earlier this year, the singer spoke to Metal Wani about the matter: “The first two Emperor albums were absolutely massacred by the mainstream metal media,” he said. “Ten, twenty years have passed and, suddenly, I see these albums alongside Black Sabbath as 'The most influential and important album of the last 50 years' and things like that.”
He continued: “In 1991 we didn’t start some obscure black metal band to do this. There was no scene, there was no ‘doing this.’ There was a very, very small underground scene, kind of pushing the extremes of music. We were teenagers. There were artistic ambitions, not commercial ambitions. I like to think that was the only reason we ended up having a career because, in doing this, we created something that was exotic and unique enough not to compete with anything that existed.”.
Ihsahn's solo album, Ámr , was released in May.
