Iggor Cavalera revisits Sepultura's "Refuse/Resist": "A powerful statement against fascism."

The drummer also explained how samba influenced the percussion on the track.

Iggor Cavalera Sepultura 's "Refuse/Resist" in an episode of the Beneath the Drums series , released on YouTube to revisit the drummer's career.

In a detailed presentation of the classic track, released on the 1993 album Chaos AD , Iggor discusses technical and creative aspects. “The drums are a combination of heavy beats and some samba elements, especially in the higher notes; I play percussion in the tambourine style,” says the musician. “It was one of the first tracks where I mixed heavy elements and samba beats (...), these elements represent my roots in drumming.”

Regarding the song's lyrics, the drummer recalled that they are a "strong statement against fascism ," criticizing the control of the population by the media or police, something explored in the music video with real scenes of clashes between civilians and armed forces in different contexts and shows by the group at the time.

Beloved by the band's founders, the song was also cited by Max Cavalera as one of the 10 definitive songs of his career , alongside releases with other projects.
