Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice posted the following statement on the band's official Facebook page:
"To everyone who was hoping to see Deep Purple in Sweden and Denmark this week, I would like you to know the reason why the shows were not possible and to put an end to the speculation and rumors."
On the morning of June 14th, I woke up with no feeling on the right side of my body and I couldn't control my right hand or my fingers.
So I went to the hospital where I was diagnosed as having suffered a minor stroke, or cerebral ischemia. The hospital staff in Stockholm were amazing and I started my treatment right away. After the CT scan and MRI, they found that there was no serious or permanent damage. At the moment I'm just feeling a little numbness in my face and my hand is tingling. My hand dexterity is returning quickly and I fully expect to be back on tour this month.
And now I have a set of medications to take every day to make sure this doesn't happen again!
I'm sorry I couldn't play for you. And I feel so sorry for myself! These were the first Deep Purple shows I missed since their formation in 1968.
Thank you to everyone who showed concern and sent their best wishes.
-Ian Paice.
