Ian Gillan admitted to being completely surprised to learn that one of Deep Purple was used in the trailer for the fifth and final season of the Netflix series Stranger Things .
The song in question, "Child in Time ," originally recorded in 1970, appears on the series' promotional soundtrack. However, Gillan revealed that he had no idea about its inclusion until he was questioned about it in an interview with Classic Rock .
The vocalist revealed that he doesn't own a television or subscribe to streaming services like Netflix, which left him unaware of the classic song's use in the production. "I don't know what you're talking about… I don't have Netflix. I don't have a television. So, yes, in that respect it's a surprise," said Gillan, now 80 years old.
The adaptation of the nearly 11-minute song for the trailer reinforces how Stranger Things has used rock and metal classics throughout its seasons to accentuate dramatic and nostalgic atmospheres. The series has already boosted the popularity of other iconic tracks in previous years with noticeable effects on streaming platforms.
